What To Expect
Wander Women backpacking trips are “expedition style”, which means everyone works together to carry the gear, cook meals, and perform camp chores. But don’t worry, even if you have never been camping before we will teach you everything you need to know!
You will be provided with a comprehensive packing list, complete with tips on where to find the things you need. Before each trip, we hold a pre-trip gathering where you can get to know the group, ask questions about gear, and get tips for packing your backpack. If you are not local to Portland, we will hold a separate online meeting.
On the first day of the trip we drive to the trailhead, divvy up group gear and food, and head off down the trail. Each day we will hike for several miles on rustic trails, carrying everything we need on our backs. You’ll eat delicious meals customized for your dietary needs, and sleep in shared tents. Throughout the trip there are intentional reflective activities, educational opportunities, and plenty of time to just enjoy the wilderness and the company of other women. We can’t wait for you to join our community!
What We Provide
Wander Women provides all the group gear, food, transportation from Portland, and guidance for each trip. Group gear includes tents, cookware, stoves, first aid kit, water treatment, navigation, and permits. Food menus are tailored for each trip based on the group’s dietary needs and preferences. Wander Women eat well, and delicious snacks are plentiful!
What You Need
You will need personal gear including clothing, hiking boots, backpack, sleeping bag, and ground pad. A detailed packing list will be provided upon registration. If you don’t already own the necessary items, we provide descriptions, examples, and guidance on options for where to buy or rent them.
